Cinema software in France: what cinemas run today
France is the one market in our crawl where a single web supplier dominates: more than half of the French cinema websites we visited send buyers to The Boxoffice Company. Behind the website, every French cinema runs a CNC-approved box office.
| System | What it is | French sites in our crawl | Filmgrail runs on top |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Boxoffice Company (Webedia) | Websites, online ticketing, apps and marketing services for exhibitors, sold as Boost; part of the Webedia group | 58 of 112 | Alternative: Filmgrail replaces this layer |
| Vista | Enterprise cinema management; Pathé completed the move of all its sites, France included, to Vista Cloud | Circuits count once | Yes, integrated |
| Zerd Cinéma | French CNC-approved ticketing and management software, published since 2002, for fixed and touring cinemas | Not measured | Not yet integrated; scoped in writing, about a month |
| Jarvis (ArinaSoft) | CNC-approved cinema management software for associative, municipal and independent cinemas | Not measured | Not yet integrated; scoped in writing, about a month |
Crawl: French cinema websites linking to each system's booking domain, 24 September 2026; a circuit counts once, and box offices that sell on the cinema's own domain are not attributed. Vendor facts checked on each vendor's own website (company.boxoffice.com, vista.co, zerdcine.com, arinasoft.fr) on 26 September 2026. Vendors change their products; confirm anything decision-critical with them directly.
What that means for a French cinema
In France the box office is not optional infrastructure you can swap on a whim: tickets are issued by a billetterie approved by the CNC, and that system feeds the admissions reporting the whole industry relies on. Filmgrail does not touch it. We read films, sessions, seats and prices from your box office and write each online sale back, so your CNC reporting stays exactly where it is.
What we replace is the layer your audience sees. In our crawl of cinema websites, 58 of the 112 French sites linked to The Boxoffice Company, whose group Webedia builds many French cinema sites. If that is you, read The Boxoffice Company alternatives and Filmgrail vs The Boxoffice Company. Circuits on Vista can start from our Vista integration and Vista alternatives.
Why French cinemas choose Filmgrail
French cinemas compete with the national circuits' apps and subscription passes, such as Pathé's CinéPass. Filmgrail gives an independent, art et essai or regional cinema a digital front door of the same standard, owned by the cinema.
Your brand, not a shared booking page
Your own website on your own domain, a proper page for every film, your seasons and events, and a checkout in your colours. Not a booking page that looks the same for every venue on the system.
Native iOS and Android apps included
Your cinema on the moviegoer's home screen, on the same CMS as the website, with push when a saved film goes on sale. In our crawl of 1,189 cinema websites, only 7% linked to an app.
Flat price, no per-ticket fees
From $200 to $20,000 a year, flat per screen. Our price does not rise with your attendance, and we never take a cut of a ticket.
Your box office stays
Filmgrail sits in front of your CNC-approved billetterie. It reads films, sessions, seats and prices and writes each sale back, so the counter, the CNC reporting and your accounts do not change.
Live in weeks
A few weeks when we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month when we connect a new one.
Loyalty, push and Insights built in
Member pricing, push campaigns and audience analytics in the same customer record as the sale, plus a planning tool for your programme and a festival platform if you run one.
The French market
France is Europe's largest cinema market. The CNC reports a 2025 box office of €1,158.1m, 156.2m admissions and 6,401 screens (see our global box office figures); UNIC puts admissions down 13.6% on an exceptional 2024 (see European cinema statistics). Pathé Cinémas, the largest French circuit, runs 1,308 screens on 129 sites in eight countries (see the largest cinema chains).
French moviegoers pay online with cards on the Cartes Bancaires network, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and young people can spend the government's pass Culture on cinema tickets through their cinema's box office. We integrate your payment provider rather than forcing ours on you.
The exhibitors' federation FNCF, chaired by Richard Patry since 2013, holds its annual congress in Deauville; art et essai cinemas meet through AFCAE's Rencontres nationales, and the industry gathers at the Marché du Film in Cannes. We list 29 cinema industry events in France, and the people who lead its circuits and associations in who's who in cinema.
Proof: who runs on Filmgrail
We do not yet have a French cinema live, and we would rather say so. The closest comparables are in Norway and Sweden, where municipal, associative and independent cinemas look a lot like France's. Bergen Kino runs 18 halls with its website, native apps and online ticketing on Filmgrail, and Trondheim Kino runs two cinema centres and 19 halls on the same platform. Bio Bristol, an association-run cinema in a 1939 building near Stockholm, is the nearest thing we have to a French cinéma associatif.
For circuits, Ster-Kinekor, southern Africa's largest circuit, runs its website, ticketing and loyalty on Filmgrail. For festivals, BIFF and the Norwegian film festival in Haugesund run their festival websites and ticketing on our festival platform.
Published pricing in US dollars, from a single screen to a large circuit.
We never take a cut of your tickets. A sold-out weekend costs you nothing extra.
A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month for a new one.
Festival website, apps, passes and ticketing on the same flat logic, with no per-ticket fee.
Pricing and setup
Pricing is published and flat: from $200 a year for a single screen to $20,000 a year for a large circuit, per screen, with no per-ticket fees (see pricing). Prices are in US dollars. A mid-size film festival pays about $5,000 a year. If we already integrate your box office and payment provider you can be live in a few weeks; a system we have not connected before takes about a month, and we confirm the scope in writing before anything is signed.
See your own cinema on it before you talk to anyone: the free cinema website prototype builds a version of your site from its current address. Then book a demo against your real programme.

Does Filmgrail work with Zerd Cinéma or Jarvis?
Not yet. We have not connected to either before, so we start by checking what your installation exposes and give you a written scope before anything is signed. A new box office integration takes about a month.
Does Filmgrail replace my CNC-approved billetterie?
No. Tickets are still issued and reported by your approved box office. Filmgrail is the moviegoer-facing layer in front of it: website, apps, checkout, loyalty and push.
Can we move from The Boxoffice Company to Filmgrail?
Yes. We rebuild your site on your real programme on staging, redirect your old addresses so search visibility carries over, and import the customer data you export from your current supplier.
