Film festival ticketing software and websites
Filmgrail is film festival ticketing software: sections, single screenings, passes, industry accreditation and your festival website in one system, from about $5,000 a year with no per-ticket fees. Norway's biggest festivals already run on it: BIFF and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. Passes are sold before the programme exists, accreditation runs beside public sale, and the site stays up the hour the programme drops. Live in weeks.

Trusted by Norway's biggest film festivals
BIFF — Bergen International Film Festival. Norway's largest film festival, presenting over 120 documentary and fiction films a year with a dedicated documentary focus.
The Norwegian International Film Festival, Haugesund. Norway's first film festival, and host to New Nordic Films — the Nordic co-production and finance market that has run alongside it since 1995, which is exactly the industry-and-public split described above.
Both run on the same platform that runs year-round cinemas, including Edda Kino, which is the Haugesund festival's main arena for one week a year and an ordinary five-screen cinema for the other fifty-one.
What a mid-size international festival pays. Smaller festivals pay less.
A few weeks with a ticketing and payment provider we already integrate; about a month for a new one.
Programme, venues and site carry over to the next edition — no rebuild, no re-purchase.
Why festival software is a different problem
Most festival websites are cinema websites with the wrong content model bolted on, and it shows in the same places every time.
The programme is not a slate. A cinema publishes what is on this week. A festival publishes strands, themes, competition sections and sidebars, and a film belongs to one or more of them. Flatten that into a chronological list and you have destroyed the thing the programmers spent a year building.
Screenings are singular. A film plays once, maybe twice, often in a venue you borrowed for ten days. Everything about inventory, waitlists and sold-out handling behaves differently when there is no second chance next Tuesday.
Passes are sold before the programme exists. People buy an early-bird pass in March for a festival in October, then redeem it against individual screenings when the programme lands. That is a fundamentally different commerce model from selling a ticket to a known show.
Industry and public are two audiences in one building. Accredited delegates, press screenings, market events and screenings that must never appear on public sale — alongside a public programme that must. Getting that wrong is not a cosmetic error; an industry screening listed publicly has commercial consequences.
Film festival software, ticketing system or management software?
Festivals search for the same purchase under three names. A film festival ticketing system sells single tickets and passes against one live inventory. Film festival management software adds the programme, sections, venues, guests and accreditation. A festival website publishes all of it. When the three are separate products, the programme is typed in three times and the pass a customer bought in June has to be matched by hand to the screenings they pick in August.
Filmgrail is one system for all three: the programme you publish is the inventory you sell, passes are redeemed against it, and industry screenings sit beside the public ones without appearing on the public site. The programme announcement is your biggest day
A cinema's traffic arrives steadily. A festival's arrives in a single spike the hour the programme is announced, and again when passes open. Those two hours carry a disproportionate share of the year's sales and essentially all of the reputational risk.
Two things break under that load: the site itself, and the checkout. A festival site that goes down during its own programme announcement is the story of the festival that year, and it is remembered longer than the programme is.
Plan for it explicitly. Announce at a time you have staff available. Have the programme fully entered and previewed before the embargo lifts, not during. And load-test the checkout against the actual concurrency you expect, not against a normal Tuesday.
What to ask any festival platform before you buy
- Can a film belong to several sections at once? If strands are tags on a list rather than real structure, your programme will read as a spreadsheet.
- How do passes redeem against individual screenings? Ask to see it. This is where most general-purpose ticketing systems get uncomfortable.
- Can we hide industry screenings from the public programme? And can accredited delegates see their own schedule without seeing the public one?
- What happens at the programme announcement? Ask specifically about concurrency, and ask what happened to their other clients on announcement day.
- Does next year's edition roll forward, or get rebuilt? The answer determines whether you pay for a website once or annually.
- Is every film a crawlable page? A festival programme is a large amount of unique content. Published properly it brings an audience for years; published as a JavaScript listing it brings none.
- Who owns the audience data afterwards? A festival's list is its most valuable asset between editions. Confirm you can export it.
- Can it run a venue year-round as well? Relevant if you are a cinema eleven months of the year and a festival for one.
See your festival on Filmgrail before you call anyone
Most festival platforms make you sit through a sales call to see anything. We would rather you saw your own festival running. Build your festival's prototype in 30 seconds from your current website, or book a festival walkthrough and we will set up your sections, venues and passes for the conversation.

Frequently asked questions
How much does film festival ticketing software cost?
On Filmgrail, a mid-size international film festival pays about $5,000 a year, and smaller festivals pay less. The site and programme structure roll forward to the next edition, so you are not re-buying a website every year.
How long does it take to launch a festival on Filmgrail?
A few weeks if we already integrate your ticketing and payment provider; about a month if we need to add a new one. Start early enough to have the programme entered and previewed before announcement day.
What is film festival ticketing software?
Software that handles a festival's programme and ticket sales — strands and sections, single screenings, borrowed venues, passes redeemed against individual films, and industry accreditation alongside public sale. General event ticketing handles the transaction but usually not the programme structure, which is where festivals actually struggle.
Can a festival site sell tickets directly?
Yes. Ticketing is integrated into the festival website, so audiences buy passes and individual screening tickets without being handed to a third-party page — which is also how you keep the audience data.
Can we reuse the site next year?
Yes. The platform is built around recurring editions: programme, films, venues and seminars are content you roll forward and update rather than rebuild. It is the difference between paying for a festival website once and paying for one annually.
Can we keep industry screenings off the public programme?
Yes. Accredited industry programming, press screenings and market events are kept separate from the public listing in the same system — which is how Haugesund runs New Nordic Films alongside its public festival.
Will the site survive the programme announcement?
That is the design requirement. A festival's traffic arrives in a spike the hour the programme drops rather than spread across the year, and the site has to hold up under it — that hour carries a disproportionate share of the year's sales.
Can the same platform run our cinema the rest of the year?
Yes, and several venues on it do exactly that. Edda Kino is the Norwegian International Film Festival's main arena for one week a year and a five-screen cinema for the rest.
