A festival website is not a cinema website with a different logo. The content model is different: strands rather than a slate, films that screen once or twice rather than for a fortnight, venues borrowed for the duration, seminars and industry events alongside screenings, and passes sold before anyone knows what they are seeing.

The traffic shape is different too. A cinema's audience arrives steadily; a festival's arrives in a spike the hour the programme is announced, and the site either survives that or it defines the festival's reputation for the year.

And it has to be rebuilt annually without being rebuilt annually — the edition rolls forward as content rather than as a new project, which is the difference between a festival site that costs money every year and one that does not.
