Software for single-screen, town and community cinemas

Filmgrail gives a single-screen, town or community cinema the same website, online ticketing, gift cards and apps that national chains run. A single screen costs $200 a year, flat, with no per-ticket fees. Hitra Kino, Bryne Kino, Fredrikstad Kino and Bio Bristol already sell tickets on it, and none of them needs a developer to do it.

Town cinemas already on Filmgrail

Hitra Kino is on an island on the Trøndelag coast, about as far from a multiplex as a cinema gets. It runs on the same platform as Ster-Kinekor's thirty-plus complexes.

Bryne Kino publishes film write-ups next to its listings. For a cinema whose audience is a whole town, that editorial layer does most of the marketing. Fredrikstad Kino sells premieres, event screenings and gift cards through the same checkout as its tickets.

Bio Bristol in Sundbyberg, Sweden, is an association-run cinema in a restored pre-war building, with no IT department. Rådhus-Teatret is Kongsvinger's cinema and theatre.

If your building also runs concerts or stage, see software for cultural centres.

$200
per year

For a single screen, flat. Adding a screen moves you up the same per-screen scale, so you know the new price before you ask.

$0
per-ticket fees

A flat price per screen, with no per-ticket fee and no share of your sales. A record year costs nothing extra.

Weeks
to go live

A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month if we need to add a new one.

What a small cinema is up against, and how Filmgrail fixes it

A free template with no real ticketing

You get a proper cinema website: programme, film pages with trailers and write-ups, and a checkout built into the site instead of a link to someone else's.

Volunteers and part-timers run the site

The CMS needs no programming knowledge, and film data is imported automatically, so nobody retypes the programme. Role-based access keeps each person in their own area.

A national portal ranks above you

Every film and screening is a fast, server-rendered page with structured data, so your own site has the best chance of being the result for 'cinema in' plus your town.

Nearly everyone books on a phone

The site is designed for a phone first. The seat map works with a thumb, and returning customers pay with saved payment details.

Gift cards are hidden where nobody finds them

Gift cards and value cards are sold, stored and redeemed in the same checkout as tickets.

You can't reach your regulars

Web push works without an app. Segmented push and SMS campaigns reach people when a film they watchlisted opens. Loyalty points are available when you want them.

A new box office is out of the question

Keep the one you have. If we do not integrate it yet, we build the connector during onboarding, which takes about a month.

Five questions to ask anyone quoting a single screen

  • Is there a per-ticket or percentage fee? At small volumes a per-ticket fee can look cheap. Work it out at the volume you want to reach, not the volume you sell today.
  • Can a volunteer update the programme? Ask them to show you, in the admin, without a developer on the call.
  • Is the checkout on your own site? If the buy button leaves your domain, the customer and the search traffic leave with it.
  • What does adding an app later cost? Find out now, while you are choosing, not after you have signed.
  • Can you export your customer list? It is the most valuable thing a town cinema owns. Confirm it is yours.

See your own cinema running on it

See your own cinema on Filmgrail in 20 seconds. Paste your current website address, and the prototype tool builds a working version of your cinema on Filmgrail, with a back office you can click through. Then book a demo, or read the pricing first. It is published.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How much does software for a single-screen cinema cost?

On Filmgrail, $200 a year for a single screen, flat, with no per-ticket fee and no share of your sales. Card fees go to your own payment provider under your own agreement.

Is a single-screen cinema too small for Filmgrail?

No. Hitra Kino, an island cinema, runs the same software as Ster-Kinekor's thirty-plus complexes. What changes between them is the configuration and the price, not the product.

Can we sell gift cards online?

Yes. Gift cards and value cards are sold and redeemed in the same checkout as tickets, as Fredrikstad Kino does.

Do we need our own app?

Not to start. The website and web push cover most of what a town cinema needs. Native iOS and Android apps under your own brand can be added later on the same CMS and checkout.

Can volunteers run it?

Yes. Everything is edited in the CMS without programming knowledge, film data is imported automatically, and role-based access gives each volunteer only the part they look after.

Do we have to change our box office?

No. Filmgrail connects to the box office you already run. If we do not integrate it yet, we build the connector during onboarding, which takes about a month.
