Cinema chain software for small and mid-size circuits

Filmgrail is cinema chain software for multi-site circuits. You get one website with a location switcher, one set of native apps, one checkout and one loyalty programme, while each site keeps its own programme and pricing and head office sees reporting across all of them. Ster-Kinekor, Classic Cinemas, Wallis Cinemas, Bergen Kino, Trondheim Kino and Aurora Kino run on it, at a flat price per screen with no per-ticket fees.

Circuits already running on Filmgrail

Ster-Kinekor is the largest circuit in southern Africa, with more than thirty complexes across South Africa and Namibia. Its website, ticketing and SK Club loyalty run on Filmgrail. Loyalty tiers are applied at the moment of purchase, so the discount on screen is always correct.

Classic Cinemas runs around sixteen theatres in the Chicago area: restored historic houses such as the Tivoli and the Paramount alongside recliner multiplexes, all under one brand. Wallis Cinemas runs four sites in South Australia and Victoria on one platform with one programme model.

Bergen Kino has 18 halls in central Bergen, with native apps. Trondheim Kino sells its EPIQ, MAGIQ and BOUTIQ hall concepts across two centres and 19 halls. Aurora Kino runs cinemas in several towns across northern Norway on one CMS, one app and one checkout, and each town keeps its own programme.

$20,000
per year, at the top

The price for a large circuit. Smaller circuits pay less on the same per-screen scale: flat per screen, known in advance.

$0
per-ticket fees

A flat price per screen, with no per-ticket fee and no share of your sales. A record year costs nothing extra.

30+
complexes on one platform

Ster-Kinekor's circuit across South Africa and Namibia runs on the same software as a single-screen town cinema.

Weeks

A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month if we need to add a new one.

What goes wrong as a circuit grows, and how Filmgrail fixes it

A website and a supplier for every site

One site with a location switcher. Each location has its own programme, showtimes, halls, ticket types and pricing, all managed in one CMS.

Very different sites under one brand

A historic single screen and a recliner multiplex are sold differently. Hall concepts and premium formats each get their own content and pricing, instead of a generic row of times.

A separate app per site, or no app at all

One set of native iOS and Android apps under your brand, sharing content, checkout and customer accounts with the website.

Loyalty that doesn't follow the customer between sites

Filmgrail Loyalty earns on tickets and concessions at every location, with tiers applied at the moment of purchase.

Head office can't see the whole circuit

Reporting across every site, plus Filmgrail Insights by film, screening, channel and location, with the buyer attached to each sale.

Local marketing, central control

Push and SMS campaigns segmented by location, genre and watchlist. Role-based access gives each person only the sections and permissions they need.

Thousands of performances a week

Programme data comes straight from your box office and film data is imported automatically, so nobody retypes showtimes.

Your data team wants the raw data

Feeds into your own data warehouse or BI tool are available on demand, built during onboarding.

What to ask any vendor before you move a circuit

  • What does it cost at three-year volume? Per-ticket and percentage fees grow fastest across many sites. Ask for the total at today's volume and at double.
  • One app, or one per site? A separate app per site splits your audience and your reviews.
  • Can each site change its own prices without a release? Ask to watch someone do it in the admin.
  • Are loyalty tiers applied before payment or after? If they are applied after, the price on screen is wrong for your best customers.
  • Do you replace our box office, or connect to it? Replacing it means retraining, data migration and downtime at the counter.
  • Who owns the customer data, and can we export it? Get the answer in writing, in the contract.

See your circuit on Filmgrail

See your own cinema on Filmgrail in 20 seconds: the prototype tool reads your current website and builds a working version of it on Filmgrail. Then book a demo. We run it against your own programme and send a written cost assessment afterwards. The price range is on the pricing page.

By market: United States, Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany and Norway.

If you already run a box office such as Vista, read Vista alternatives and Filmgrail vs Vista. You keep Vista at the counter and Filmgrail runs what your audience sees. For the marketing layer, see Movio alternatives and Boxoffice Company alternatives.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How much does cinema chain software cost?

Filmgrail is a flat annual price per screen, up to $20,000 a year for a large circuit, with no per-ticket fee and no share of your sales. After a demo you get a written cost assessment for your own circuit.

Can one platform run cinemas with different programmes in different towns?

Yes. Each location has its own programme, showtimes, halls, ticket types and pricing, under one brand, one CMS and one app. Aurora Kino runs its northern Norway cinemas this way.

Can each site set its own prices?

Yes. Pricing and ticket types can be set per location, per hall and per screening, and your own staff can change them without a software release.

Do we have to replace Vista or our current box office?

No. Filmgrail connects to the box office you run and writes each sale back to it, so the counter, scheduling and distributor reporting stay where they are. If we do not integrate your system yet, we build the connector during onboarding.

Does it scale to a national circuit?

Yes. Ster-Kinekor runs more than thirty complexes across South Africa and Namibia on Filmgrail, including its SK Club loyalty tiers.

How long does it take to roll out across a circuit?

A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider. About a month if we need to add a new one.
