Cinema ticketing software for Norwegian cinemas

Filmgrail is the cinema software Norway's own operators chose. Bergen Kino, Trondheim Kino, Aurora Kino, Edda Kino, BIFF and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund all run their website, apps and online ticketing on it, alongside town cinemas and kulturhus from Fredrikstad to Hitra. It is built in Oslo, sold at a flat price per screen, and takes no cut of your tickets.

Cinema software in Norway: what cinemas run today

Norway's digital cinema market is small and tightly connected: a national portal, a handful of box office suppliers, two international circuits with their own systems, and a large municipal and independent sector. This is who does what.

What that means for a Norwegian cinema

Many Norwegian cinemas are municipally owned or run as part of a kulturhus, and they share a national layer: the Filmweb portal, Kinogavekort and Norgesbilletten, reported through the same systems. That is useful infrastructure, and nothing about Filmgrail replaces it. What it does not give you is a digital front door of your own.

A national portal ranks for your films and sells your seats next to everyone else's. The circuits you compete with sell through their own branded channels; Nordisk Film Kino has its own NFkino app. Filmgrail gives an independent or municipal cinema the same thing: a website and an app on your own domain and your own brand, with the whole programme, a Vipps checkout and a customer record you own. That is why Bergen Kino and Trondheim Kino, two of the largest operators in the country, run on it.

Proof: Norway already runs on Filmgrail

Norway is our home market, and it is where Filmgrail has the most customers. Every size of operator is represented:

A single-hall island cinema and an 18-hall city operator run the same software; what changes is the configuration and the price. Across cinemas on the platform, the average yearly increase in digital ticket sales is 89% (see platform benchmarks). Ask any of them what it is like to work with us; we will put you in touch.

Why Norwegian cinemas choose Filmgrail

Norwegian audiences book on their phones and pay with Vipps. Nordisk Film Kino already gives them a branded app to do it in. Filmgrail gives every other cinema in the country the same, from a supplier down the road rather than across the world.

Your brand, not a shared booking page

Your own website on your own domain, with a proper page for every film, your events and series, and a checkout in your colours. Not a portal or widget that looks the same for every cinema on it, and that can show your customer the cinema down the road.

Native iOS and Android apps included

Your cinema on the moviegoer's home screen, running on the same CMS as the website, with push when a saved film goes on sale. Most cinemas have no app at all; in our crawl of 1,189 cinema websites only 7% linked to one.

Flat price, no per-ticket fees

From $200 to $20,000 a year, flat per screen. Our price does not rise with your attendance, so a sold-out weekend costs you nothing extra.

Your box office stays

Filmgrail reads films, sessions, seats and prices from the box office you already run and writes each sale back. No counter migration, no retraining, no change to your reporting.

Live in weeks

A few weeks when we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month when we connect a new one.

Local payments, loyalty and Insights

Filmgrail's checkout takes Vipps alongside cards, with gift cards and value codes, and we integrate your payment provider. Member pricing, push campaigns and audience analytics sit in the same customer record as the sale.

A Norwegian supplier

Filmgrail AS is an Oslo company. Support, contracts and GDPR handling are Norwegian and European, and the platform already runs municipal cinemas such as Trondheim Kino and kulturhus across the country.

The Norwegian market

Norway ran against the European trend in 2025: box office rose 7.7% and admissions 2.5%, while European admissions as a whole fell 5.3%, according to UNIC figures in our European cinema statistics. Nordic audiences combine very high smartphone use with near-universal card and wallet payment, so the digital channel carries a larger share of the sale than in most of Europe. Whoever owns that channel owns the relationship.

The trade meets through Film & Kino, the national association of cinemas. Its Kinokonferansen runs in Bergen from 10 to 12 November 2026, and Filmtreff screenings for exhibitors run in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. We list 15 cinema industry events in Norway, and Film & Kino's leadership is in our who's who in cinema.

$200–$20,000
a year, flat per screen

Published pricing in US dollars, from a single screen to a large circuit.

$0
per-ticket fees

We never take a cut of your tickets. Every online sale costs the same as the last.

Weeks
to go live

A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month for a new one.

~$5,000
a year for a mid-size festival

The same flat logic for festivals: website, apps, passes and ticketing, no per-ticket fee.

Pricing and setup

Pricing is published and flat: from $200 a year for a single screen to $20,000 a year for a large circuit, per screen, with no per-ticket fees (see pricing). A mid-size film festival pays about $5,000 a year. If we already integrate your box office and payment provider you can be live in a few weeks; a provider we have not connected before takes about a month. Because so many Norwegian cinemas already run on Filmgrail, the payment and reporting set-up Norwegian operators need is routine for us.

See your own cinema on it before you talk to anyone: the free cinema website prototype builds a version of your site from its current address. Then book a demo against your real programme.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

What is the best cinema ticketing software in Norway?

For the website, apps and online checkout your audience uses, Filmgrail. It is the platform Bergen Kino, Trondheim Kino, Aurora Kino, Edda Kino, BIFF and the Haugesund film festival chose, it takes Vipps, it is built by an Oslo company, and it costs a flat price per screen with no per-ticket fees.

Does Filmgrail work with DX?

DX is not on our published list of box office integrations today. We connect a new box office in about a month, and if your DX contract covers online sales we will scope exactly what moves between the two before you commit. Talk to us with your screen count and we will tell you what it involves.

Does Filmgrail take Vipps?

Yes. Filmgrail's checkout takes Vipps alongside cards, gift cards and value codes, on the website and in the native apps. We integrate your payment provider, and payment processing fees go to that provider, not to us.

Can a small kommunal kino or kulturhus afford Filmgrail?

Yes. Pricing starts at $200 a year for a single screen, flat, with no per-ticket fees. Hitra Kino, Bryne Kino, Oppdal Kulturhus and Ørland Kultursenter run the same platform as Bergen Kino.

Does Filmgrail replace Filmweb or Kinogavekort?

No. Filmgrail is your own website, app and checkout. National schemes such as the Filmweb portal, Kinogavekort and Norgesbilletten work at the level of your box office, and your own channels sell alongside them.

Can a Norwegian film festival use Filmgrail?

Yes. BIFF in Bergen and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund run their festival website, programme and ticketing on Filmgrail's festival platform. A mid-size international festival pays about $5,000 a year.
