Movie theatre and cinema ticketing software for Canada

The best movie theatre software for most Canadian cinemas is Filmgrail on top of the box office you already run. Keep Veezi, Omniterm, RTS, Spektrix or Vista at the counter, and let Filmgrail run your branded website, native iOS and Android apps and online checkout, for a flat price per screen with no per-ticket fees.

Cinema software in Canada: what theatres run today

In our September crawl of 40 Canadian cinema websites, Veezi was by far the most common booking system. These are the systems Canadian theatres run.

Crawl: Canadian cinema websites linking to each system's booking domain, 24 September 2026; a circuit counts once, and counter systems that host booking on the theatre's own domain are not attributed. Vendor facts checked on each vendor's own website on 26 September 2026. Vendors change their products; confirm anything decision-critical with them directly.

What that means for a Canadian theatre

Most Canadian independents in our crawl sell online through Veezi's standard web sales page, and most of the rest through a POS vendor's webstore. Both work. Neither gives you a website that feels like your theatre, an app on your regulars' phones, or a loyalty programme that competes with Cineplex's.

Filmgrail adds all three without touching the box office. We read films, showtimes, seats and prices from it and write each sale back. Read Veezi alternatives, Filmgrail vs Veezi, Omniterm alternatives and RTS alternatives for the detail.

Why Canadian cinemas choose Filmgrail

One circuit dominates Canadian moviegoing, and it has the app, the loyalty programme and the marketing budget. Filmgrail gives an independent or regional theatre the digital tools to compete on its own terms.

Your brand, not a shared booking page

Your own website on your own domain, with a proper page for every film, your seasons and events, and a checkout in your colours. Not a generic ticketing page that looks the same for every venue on the system.

Native iOS and Android apps included

Your cinema on the moviegoer's home screen, running on the same CMS as the website, with push when a saved film goes on sale. Most cinemas have no app at all; in our crawl only 7% of cinema websites linked to one.

Flat price, no per-ticket fees

From $200 to $20,000 a year, flat per screen. Our price does not rise with your attendance, so a sold-out weekend costs you nothing extra.

Your box office stays

Filmgrail reads films, sessions, seats and prices from the box office you already run and writes each sale back. No counter migration, no retraining, no change to your reporting.

Live in weeks

A few weeks when we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month when we connect a new one.

Loyalty, push and Insights built in

Member pricing, push campaigns and audience analytics in the same customer record as the sale, plus a planning tool for your programme and a festival platform if you run one.

The Canadian market

Cineplex, Canada's largest chain, runs 1,595 screens on 152 sites (see the largest cinema chains). Canada reports its box office together with the US: $8.66bn for the two countries in 2025, and loyalty subscriptions across North America rose 15% between 2024 and 2025, according to Cinema United (see our cinema industry statistics). A regional theatre that wants a share of those loyal regulars needs its own membership and its own app.

Canadian buyers pay by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay online, and by Interac debit at the counter. We integrate your payment provider rather than forcing ours on you.

Proof: who runs on Filmgrail

We do not yet have a Canadian theatre live. The closest comparable is across the border: Classic Cinemas runs around sixteen theatres in the Chicago area on Filmgrail, historic single screens and recliner multiplexes alike, with website, online ticketing and CMS on one platform. The same platform runs Wallis Cinemas, a family-owned Australian independent, and Ster-Kinekor, southern Africa's largest circuit.

Festivals and where Canadian exhibitors meet

Canada's festivals, from Toronto to Vancouver, are a large part of its film culture. Our festival platform costs about $5,000 a year for a mid-size festival, flat, with no per-ticket fee.

The Movie Theatre Association of Canada runs ShowCanada in Montreal; independents meet through NICE, the Network of Independent Canadian Exhibitors, and Quebec owners through the APCQ and Ciné Québec. We list 11 cinema industry events in Canada.

$200–$20,000
a year, flat per screen

Published pricing in US dollars, from a single screen to a large circuit.

$0
per-ticket fees

We never take a cut of your tickets. Every online sale costs the same as the last.

Weeks
to go live

A few weeks if we already integrate your box office and payment provider; about a month for a new one.

~$5,000
a year for a mid-size festival

The same flat logic for festivals: website, apps, passes and ticketing, no per-ticket fee.

Pricing and setup

Pricing is published and flat: from $200 a year for a single screen to $20,000 a year for a large circuit, per screen, with no per-ticket fees (see pricing). A mid-size film festival pays about $5,000 a year. If we already integrate your box office and payment provider you can be live in a few weeks; a provider we have not connected before takes about a month.

See your own cinema on it before you talk to anyone: the free cinema website prototype builds a version of your site from its current address. Then book a demo against your real programme.
