Ster-Kinekor operates at a scale that tests every assumption in a cinema platform: more than thirty complexes from Cape Town to Polokwane and across the border into Namibia, a subscription loyalty programme in the SK Club, premium formats, venue hire, festivals and live events all sold through the same front door.

Two things get hard at this size. Programme data volume — thousands of performances a week that have to be correct on every device, every day, without a person checking. And the loyalty tier logic, which has to resolve at the point of purchase rather than after it, or the discount is wrong on screen and the customer notices before you do.

It is also the site that most clearly demonstrates the point about market fit. Southern African cinema-going has its own pricing conventions, its own payment methods and its own mobile-first reality, and none of that is served by a platform that assumes a European or American customer.
