What it reads, and what it does not
A KDM is an XML file. Its metadata — the composition it unlocks, the validity window, the certificate of the device it was made for and the types of key it carries — is readable plain text. The content keys themselves are encrypted to that device, and this tool neither can nor tries to read them.
Everything happens in your browser. The files are not uploaded, stored or sent anywhere, which matters because KDMs identify your equipment and your bookings.
The three failures it catches
- The key opens too late. A window that begins after your first show, often because of a time-zone mix-up, means a black screen at showtime.
- The key closes too early. The booking was extended, the key was not. The warning at 48 hours gives you time to ask the distributor.
- The wrong device. Check the target device and serial against the screen you plan to play it on: a key cut for screen 2 will not open on screen 3. See KDM and integrated media block.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check when a KDM expires?
Open it in this checker: it reads the ContentKeysNotValidBefore and ContentKeysNotValidAfter fields and shows them in your local time with the time remaining.
Is it safe to upload KDMs to an online tool?
This tool does not upload them. The file is read inside your browser and never leaves your computer.
Why does a valid KDM still not play?
Usually because it was made for a different device certificate, a different composition (for example the 2D instead of the 3D version), or the projector clock has drifted outside the window.
