The deal types
Sliding scale: a percentage that steps down each week of the run. Minimum guarantee: you pay the greater of the percentage and the guarantee. Flat fee: a fixed amount per week. 90/10 over the house nut: the distributor takes 90% of what is left after your agreed weekly expenses, but never less than a floor percentage of the gross. How is film rental calculated?
Most commonly as a percentage of net box office that declines each week of the run. Some bookings add a minimum guarantee, use a flat fee, or use a 90/10 split after an agreed house allowance with a floor percentage.
What is a typical film rental percentage?
It varies by title and territory; for new releases the distributor's share across a whole run is commonly around half of box office, higher in the opening weeks. Use your own terms in the calculator.
