Cinema website grader

Most cinema websites are judged by how they look. Visitors and search engines judge them on something else: how fast a showtime appears on a phone, whether Google can read the programme, and whether the checkout feels like the same cinema. This grader checks those things on your homepage in about ten seconds.

Your cinema's website

We read your homepage once, the way a search engine and a phone would, plus your robots.txt and sitemap. Nothing is changed on your site. The address you enter is shared with the Filmgrail team so we can follow up if you want help.

To grade your site we fetch your homepage, robots.txt and sitemap from our own server, and the address you enter is shared with the Filmgrail team. Nothing else is stored, and there is no sign-up.

What it checks, and why each one matters

Fifteen checks, weighted by how much they affect finding a film and buying a ticket. The heaviest are the ones that decide sales: showtimes in the page, films and showtimes marked up as structured data (Movie and ScreeningEvent), and whether the ticket links keep the buyer on your own domain. Speed, mobile viewport, titles and descriptions, sharing images, sitemap and image alt text make up the rest.

A check we cannot run, for example because there are no booking links on the homepage, is shown as not checked and left out of the score rather than counted as a pass or a fail.

    What it does not check

It reads the HTML your server sends, which is what search engines read first. A site that builds its programme in the browser with JavaScript may show times to visitors that the grader, and some crawlers, do not see. Speed is measured from our server, so treat it as a rough guide and use Google PageSpeed Insights for a full mobile test. It does not log in, book a ticket or test your checkout: for that, run the checkout audit.

    Fixing what it finds

Most failures are a template change, not a rebuild: a missing meta description, no sharing image, no sitemap. Two usually need the platform underneath. Structured data for every film and screening has to be generated from the programme, and keeping checkout on your own domain depends on how your ticketing is built. Filmgrail does both on top of the box office you already run. See cinema websites or build a prototype from your own site.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I check my cinema website's SEO?

Enter the homepage address in the grader above. It checks the basics search engines use: title and description, structured data for films and showtimes, sitemap, mobile viewport, language and image alt text, plus speed and where your ticket links go.

Why should a cinema website use structured data?

Movie and ScreeningEvent markup lets Google and AI search read your films and showtimes reliably instead of guessing from the page text. You can generate it for a single film with our free Movie schema generator.

Is it bad if ticket sales leave my domain?

It is common, but it costs you: the checkout looks different, analytics break at the moment that matters, and some buyers drop out. Keeping checkout on your own domain is one of the heaviest checks in the score.

    Is the grader free?

Yes. It reads your public homepage once. The address is shared with the Filmgrail team so we can follow up if you want help, and nothing on your site is changed.
