Free box office chart widget for cinema websites
Pick your country, copy two lines of code and paste them into your website. Visitors see the latest weekend's top films in your country with their grosses. It takes on your site's font, follows the visitor's light or dark mode and needs no account.
Your widget
Works on any site that accepts HTML: WordPress (a Custom HTML block), Wix (Embed code), Squarespace (Code block) or a hand-built page. It picks up your site's font, and when we add a new weekend's chart every site carrying the widget updates with it.
Live preview
The credit link under the chart is part of the code you paste, so it is there even before the script loads. Please keep it: it is what keeps the widget free.
The generator runs in your browser. Once the widget is on your site, each visitor's browser loads the script and a small data file from filmgrail.com. The widget sets no cookies and does no tracking.
What the widget shows
The top three, five or ten films from the latest weekend chart in the country you choose: rank, title, a 'new' mark for films in their first weekend, and the weekend gross in US dollars. The figures are the same ones as our weekend box office by country pages, from Box Office Mojo, and the chart heading says which weekend it covers.
Moviegoers like to see what everyone else is watching. On a cinema website, the chart sits well next to 'now showing', on a news page or in a sidebar.
How to add it to your website
- Choose the country, how many films to show and the colours.
- Copy the code. It is one
<div>and one<script>tag. - Paste it where the chart should appear. In WordPress, add a Custom HTML block. In Wix, use Embed code. In Squarespace, use a Code block. On a hand-built site, paste it into the page HTML.
The script is under 8 KB, has no dependencies and draws the chart as an accessible table inside its own shadow DOM, so your site's styles do not break it and it does not break them. If the script cannot load, visitors still see the plain text link.
Options
| Attribute | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| data-country | Which country's chart to show, as in the box office address (norway, united-kingdom, united-states …) | Required |
| data-limit | How many films to list, up to 10 | 10 |
| data-theme | light or dark to fix the colours; leave it out to follow the visitor's setting | Follows the visitor |
| data-title | Your own heading, for example 'Top films this weekend' | Box office: … |
The generator above sets the first three for you. You can add data-title to the <div> by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is the box office widget really free?
Yes. There is no account, no fee and no limit on page views. The only thing we ask is that you keep the small credit link under the chart.
Where do the box office figures come from?
From Box Office Mojo's weekend charts, in US dollars as Box Office Mojo reports them. The chart says which weekend it covers.
Why are the grosses in US dollars and not my currency?
Box Office Mojo publishes every market in US dollars, converted from the local currency. We show them as published rather than converting them back.
Will it slow down my website?
No. The script is under 8 KB, loads asynchronously and fetches one small data file.
Which countries are available?
Every market on our weekend box office pages: the Nordics, the UK, most of western and central Europe, the United States and Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore and the Gulf.
