Vista vs Veezi: which one is your cinema actually for?

These two are not really competitors. They are the same group's answers to two different questions, and the only hard part is being honest about which question is yours.

The relationship

Veezi is Vista Group's cloud product for independent and small cinemas. Vista is the group's enterprise cinema management suite, used by large circuits. Comparing them is less like comparing two rivals and less useful than working out which end of that range you are at.

Category-level positioning rather than a feature audit. Both products change; confirm current capabilities and pricing with Vista Group.

The honest test

Do you have somebody whose actual job is film booking and settlement across multiple sites? If yes, you are a Vista-shaped operation and Veezi will frustrate you within a year. If the answer is that the manager does it between the rota and the popcorn order, you are Veezi-shaped, and Vista will cost you money and time you will not get back in value.

The second test is change tolerance. Enterprise systems buy you control at the price of speed. If a small pricing experiment has to become a change request, that is the trade you have made.

What neither of them fixes

Whichever you pick, you end up with a back office and a functional but generic online sales page. Neither gives you native apps built for engagement between visits, a content model your marketing team can use without a developer, push campaigns, watchlists, or a moviegoer profile that turns anonymous transactions into an audience you can talk to.

That is the layer above, and it is a separate purchase whichever of these two you land on. It is also the layer your customers actually experience, which is why we think it deserves more attention than it usually gets in these comparisons.

How to run the evaluation, whoever you pick

  • Demand your own programme. A demo on a vendor's demo dataset tells you nothing. Insist on your real films, your real seat maps, your real ticket types and your real price rules.
  • Get the integration in writing. Before signing, get a written note of exactly what connecting to your current box office involves, who does the work, and what happens if the other vendor is slow to help.
  • Test the checkout on a phone, on a bad connection. Most cinema tickets are bought on a phone. Walk the whole flow on 4G with one hand, from film page to confirmation, and count the taps.
  • Ask what happens to your URLs. A replatform that drops your existing URLs throws away years of search visibility. The answer you want is a redirect map, not a shrug.
  • Ask who owns the moviegoer data. Specifically: can you export it, in full, in a usable format, on the day you leave? Get the answer before you are a customer.
  • Call a reference of your own size. A single-screen should not take a reference from a national circuit, and vice versa. Ask for one in roughly your market, at roughly your scale.
  • Price the exit. Contract length, notice period, transition support and data export terms matter more than the monthly fee, and they are always negotiable before you sign and never afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Is Veezi just a cheaper Vista?

Not exactly. It is a lighter cloud product from the same group, designed around the needs of a small cinema rather than being the enterprise suite with features removed. For a single screen that is an advantage, not a compromise.

When should a cinema move from Veezi to Vista?

When back-office complexity, rather than screen count alone, starts to exceed what a light system handles: multi-site film booking and settlement, complex inventory, and head-office control over many locations.

Can Filmgrail run on either?

Yes. Filmgrail integrates with both, reading programme and seating data and writing the completed online order back, so the choice between them does not determine your digital layer.

Which has better online ticket sales?

Both provide functional online sales, and neither is designed to be the branded, content-rich, app-backed experience that moves conversion. That is a different product category.

Do I have to choose one of these at all?

No. Vista Group is a large part of this market but not all of it. COMPESO, Savoy Systems, Jack Roe, POSitive, RTS, Omniterm, Admit One and MyCloudCinema all run real cinemas, often with better regional support.
