Ventana Sur

Ventana Sur was created in 2009 and is co-organised by the Marché du Film (the Cannes market), Uruguay's ACAU and Argentina's INCAA. It gathers more than 3,000 international professionals a year around the financing, co-production and circulation of Latin American content. Under its "Río de la Plata" format it alternates between the two capitals: Montevideo in 2024, Buenos Aires in 2025, and Montevideo again in 2026.

The 2026 edition spreads across the Sodre national cultural centre, the Cinemateca Uruguaya, which hosts the market screenings, and the Teatro Solís. Sections include Primer Corte and Copia Final for works in progress, Proyecta, VS Docs, VS Animation, VS Fantastic and VS Tech.

This is primarily a sales market for distributors and sales agents. For an independent exhibitor or programmer, the draw is early sight of Latin American titles — the works-in-progress showcases are where films first surface for festival programmers and buyers — and meetings with the regional distributors who will release them. A circuit that buys directly for its own territory, or a festival programmer building a Latin American strand, has the clearest reason to go.
