Four days of distributor slates

The Filmwoche München is where the German cinema trade starts its year. Over four days the distributors take turns presenting their line-ups for the year ahead, with clips and trailers, to an audience of cinema operators. It has been held at the Mathäser Filmpalast in Munich since 2004. The event is run by the team at Kinopolis, which operates the Mathäser, with organisation handled by CineArt Marketing GmbH.

The 2026 edition ran 20–23 January. The published day schedules show Warner Bros. Discovery, X-Verleih and Majestic on the Tuesday; Leonine, Studiocanal, Wild Bunch, Sony and Paramount on the Wednesday; DCM, Tobis, 24 Bilder, Splendid, Filmwelt, Disney, Vuelta and Constantin on the Thursday; and Universal on the Friday. The trade press reported about 250 films from 20 distributors and more than 1,700 cinema operators. Two evening events for all participants were part of the 2026 programme.

Is it worth going?

For a German cinema it is the most efficient way to see a whole year of releases in one week, from the studios and the independents, and to meet the people booking them. Because almost every distributor presents, it doubles as the main networking date for the German trade early in the year.

For operators outside Germany it is less useful. The slates are German distribution line-ups, presented in German.

Invitations and fees

Attendance works by personal invitation. Invitations go out based on attendance at the previous edition, and registration uses a personal code on muenchnerfilmwoche.de. Invitations are not transferable; you can bring a companion if your invitation allows it. An e-ticket is emailed about a week before the event. For 2025 the trade press reported a fee of €270 including VAT, or €240 during an early-bird window, with accreditation opening in late November. The 2027 fee had not been published as of 20 October 2026. The organiser donates €1 per participation fee to the Kurt Schalk Stiftung, which supports young people in the cinema business.
