What the seminar is
The European Digital Cinema Forum is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation funded by subscribing members — equipment makers, distributors, national film institutes and cinema circuits. Its Global Cinema Seminar is held during the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) at the RAI in Amsterdam.
The most recent edition took place on 13 September 2026. According to UNIC's report, sessions covered new premium certifications and premium large formats, the laser transition, 70mm projection, EDCF's new standard and operator guidelines for live events, ISDCF updates from the US, EU legislation affecting cinema operations, and AI in production.
Who should attend
This is a technical event. It suits chief projectionists, technical directors and anyone responsible for booth equipment, DCP handling or live-event screenings. Programmers and marketers will get less from it, although the 70mm and premium-format sessions increasingly touch on marketing.
Dates for the 2027 seminar had not been announced as of 26 September 2026. EDCF's separate annual conference is scheduled for 2–3 March 2027 in Prague.
