European Arthouse Cinema Day

European Arthouse Cinema Day is a coordinated day of special screenings and events in independent cinemas, organised by CICAE (the International Confederation of Art Cinemas) with national arthouse associations and in partnership with Europa Cinemas, with support from Creative Europe MEDIA, the CNC, the FFA and Eurimages. The 11th edition takes place on 22 November 2026.

The organiser reports that the 2025 edition drew 150,000 spectators in over 660 cinemas across 43 countries. It is open to cinemas worldwide, not only in Europe.

Registered cinemas get access to a download area with the official poster, social media kit and logos in several languages, a one-minute trailer in MOV and DCP, ambassador videos, template letters for inviting filmmakers and local officials, a press release template, curated film recommendations and special programming offers on a selection of films at reduced rates. There is also a short audience survey with DCP slides and a QR code for use on the day.

For a single-screen or small independent, that is a ready-made marketing hook and a cheap programming slot on a Sunday in late November — the effort is in building a local event around it.

Registration is through the Cinema Area on artcinemaday.org. CICAE states that participation is free of charge.
