Art House Theater Day

Art House Theater Day is not somewhere you travel to. It is a date on which participating independent cinemas all run special programming at the same time, under one banner. Art House Convergence, the coalition of independent exhibitors that organises it, describes it as a celebration of what art-house theaters and independent film contribute to the cultural landscape.

For an operator, the value is practical: a ready-made reason to put on an event night, a slate assembled by a curated programming team rather than by you alone, and a national hook that local press and members recognise. The 2026 edition, the seventh, was programmed by a mentor-and-fellows team through the organisation's AHTD fellowship.

The 2026 day was Thursday 30 July. Art House Convergence has announced that the 2027 edition returns on 4 March 2027, so the event is not pinned to a fixed month and the lead time differs year to year. A March date lands in a quieter part of the release calendar, which can make it easier to give a special screening the room it needs.
