IMAX

IMAX is a licensing relationship rather than an equipment purchase: the exhibitor builds and operates the auditorium to IMAX specification, and in return gets the brand, the projection and sound systems, and a title slate that is often released in the format with its own marketing.

It commands the clearest price premium of any format, and it is also the most demanding to install — screen size, rake and ceiling height requirements rule out a great many existing buildings.
