A market with its own rules
India has one of the largest exhibition sectors in the world by admissions, and almost none of the assumptions that hold in Europe or North America apply cleanly to it. Ticket prices are regulated in some states. The single-screen sector is enormous, ageing and under real commercial pressure from multiplex expansion. Releases are multilingual by default, often across four or five languages simultaneously. And the release calendar is built around festival dates rather than around a summer and a holiday season.
Big Cine Expo is the convention built for that market: equipment, seating, projection, sound, concessions and ticketing technology on the floor, and a programme aimed at operators dealing with regulated pricing, mall tenancy economics and single-screen modernisation.
The 2026 edition was the ninth, held at the Chennai Trade Centre in August. Dates for the following edition are published by the organiser.
