Cinema projection has consolidated hard. Where there were once many manufacturers there are now effectively three at volume, and the xenon lamp era is ending — laser illumination has moved from premium option to default, which changes the economics: higher capital cost, far lower running cost, and no lamp changes.
The practical consequence for an exhibitor is that a projector decision is now a ten-year decision rather than a five-year one, and the service relationship matters as much as the specification. Most cinemas buy through an integrator rather than direct.
